About Writing Forge

The Writing Forge was founded by CJ Emerson.

"I started creative writing after after spending years working in offices, staring at computer screens, frustrated at my own lack of motivation to fulfil a promise I'd made to myself at school - that one day I'd be a published writer. Stashed away at home I had a selection of half finished manuscripts, partly-filled notebooks, ideas that were great at four in the morning but which never made it onto the page.

The fun started when I got the courage to change direction and do more with my writing . I found a mixture of resources - 'How to...' books, courses at local colleges, writing groups. I tried them all, ending up with an MA in Creative Writing. I was lucky to have the time and the opportunity.

But I realised that there are a lot of aspiring writers who have demanding jobs, families and homes to run. They buy the 'How To Write a Novel' books only to skip most of the exercises - I know, I did it myself. Writing courses at local colleges are often at inconvenient times and writing groups are more than a little intimidating if you've never read your work to strangers before.

For these people an online course - structured but flexible, friendly but constructive, sensitive to the anxieties of writers as well as their ambitions - is the perfect answer.

That's why I designed the Writing Forge.

I and the other tutors understand the challenges and rewards of becoming a writer, that's why we aim to offer a friendly but professional sevice that fits into the lives of our members. I'm pleased to say that the feedback we get tells us that we've succeeded."
